My oh my 😦

Things have been a little intense lately. I just wanted to take a few minutes to explain my absence and make my apologies.  It just seems that life decided to throw everything around all at the same time.

The upside to the whole thing is I have far less time now to stress over every single news story about Trump. Not sure how I feel about that, but. Oh well.

First, my wife and I decided to get divorced. This is going to be a good thing, and while the fallout will be stressful, it’s going to settle well and be better for everyone.

The really huge thing, though, is going to be ongoing, and it means I’ll probably stop blogging for a while. My best friend’s 8-year-old daughter was just diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. It’s treatable, but it’s going to be a long, drawn-out process. The last two and a half weeks have been a whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, surgeries, at-home training, tears, and frustration. The new normal is exhausting and so very scary–it’s a wonder my friend and his family haven’t dropped unconscious. The family lives 4 hours from the closest treatment center, so it’s been a lot of back and forth, which is where I come in. When they need to take her for appointments, they’re staying at my place as it’s exactly halfway from their house to the hospital. The last three weekends I’ve either been at the hospital with them or at their house taking care of things or driving people back and forth. And it’s busy, but it’s so worth it.

I don’t have a lot of friends. The ones I do have are my chosen family, and this family is the kindest, most generous family I’ve ever met. They are good people who definitely do not deserve to be going through this, but are facing this with grace and courage. Treatment is going to last 6 months minimum, so we’re settling in for the long haul.

I’ll be around a little bit randomly. But I hope you are all doing well!
